Raissa Az Zahra: Public Speaking is not only a lot of experience but also mental

Raissa Az Zahra’s public speaking ability at this time, she didn’t get it instantly. This active student of the Public Relations Study Program, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University, Class of 2020, has begun to hone her skills by becoming a moderator and Master of Ceremonies in various activities. Raissa was a moderator in releasing the Political Weather Station’s national survey from the National Survey Institute. She has also been the Master of Ceremony in the National Consumer Day Webinar from the Ministry of Trade.

In honing her public speaking skills, Raissa explained “All these experiences, of course, are not obtained instantly, but by learning and processing.”

Like the results of studies that state that a person’s greatest fear in public speaking is other people. In other words, the challenge in public speaking is facing comments from the audience. It doesn’t matter how prepared the speaker is, the audience only knows what we are talking about in public.

At first, Raissa also felt the same way. According to him, “Judgement is something that cannot be controlled. So, for people who have been or are being judged, try thinking inside you that the people who judge you are not important, they are not family, friends, or people who hire you. Try not to ignore them. But judgment can make you stronger if you can face it.”

The Project Officer of The 10th Padjadjaran Public Relations Fair 2022 has the principle of always applying learning by doing in terms of honing public speaking skills. One of them is talking to strangers or strangers. For Raissa, this is an effective way for her to hone her public speaking skills.

Raissa also said that the ability that a public speaker should have is not only experience, but also needs to be supported by a strong mentality. Both of these, flying hours gained from experience and mentality must always be trained and go hand in hand.
