MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka)

The current form of learning is under the name “Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka” (MBKM – a learning method that allows 5th semester students to choose relevant subjects they like, from other faculties and other universities or part time working in an institution to broaden their learning experience ) so that before entering the world of work students are prepared to face the challenges of social change, culture, the world of work and rapid technological advances.
Therefore, students must be prepared by having competence according to the needs of the times. For this reason, synergy is needed between the world of education and the world of work. The Independent Learning Policy (MBKM) was launched by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology. One of the programs is to give freedom to students to take credits outside the study program. This opportunity can be used by students to study outside the study program, which gives students the freedom to carry out activities outside the classroom, and encourages students to become independent and independent generations. Campuses that provide freedom for students to do activities outside the classroom will help students find out more about the application of their knowledge in the field of work. This will help students become better prepared to face the challenges of the world of work. The condition of the Covid-19 pandemic prompted universities to transform the teaching and learning system. This transformation is also in line with the program’s efforts to achieve student social competence.
There are four pillars of education that are the target of higher education transformation through MBKM. The four pillars are learning to know, learning to do, learning to live, and learning to be a professional resource according to the intended field. One of the transformations carried out is curriculum renewal. The study program curriculum must always be updated. This is to ensure that learning on campus remains in line with the needs of the world of work.

There are eight activities in MBKM, namely: On Job Training/Internship; Student exchange; Research; Village Project; Teaching in schools; Entrepreneurship; Independent Studies and Projects; Humanity Project. Of the eight existing MBKM activities, study programs can choose and determine the form of teaching that is in accordance with the characteristics of the study program. For example, in the Public Relations study program, the following forms of MBKM activities are allowed for students: Internships, Student Exchanges, Research, and Entrepreneurship.
