Students of the Public Relations Study Program at Padjadajran University who are members of the PREmpuan Team won 1st place in the Public Relations Competition in the Fiesta Communication competition at Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya on April 23 2022. This team consisted of Alifia Sabila Putri, Mentari Prameswari Binangkit, and Yolanda Patricia students Public Relations Study Program Class of 2020.

Fiesta Communication which is a national level communication student competition held by Widya Mandala Catholic University Surabaya. Fiesta Communication has been held 11 times since 2012. This year, Fiesta Communication has the theme “Action!: Agents of Change for Sustainable Development” which focuses on Gen Z efforts in implementing Sustainable Development Goals.

Public Relations Competition is one of the competition points of Fiesta Communication. In the Public Relations Competition, participants were challenged to position themselves as the Ministry of Education and Culture’s PR team and design work programs aimed at creating quality education and being a solution to the problem of the irrelevance of the world of education to work.

The PRempuan team answered this challenge by providing a solution called Towards Merdeka. Towards Merdeka is a work program that optimizes the Merdeka Campus features to assist students in planning their careers before entering college.

The aim of this program is that students can find out what career they want to aim for and how to achieve it. This effort is made so that students are more focused in choosing study programs at the university as well as self-development activities during lectures. This also helps students so that one day they can get a job that is in accordance with their educational background.

The journey of the PRempuan team during this competition was not easy, especially because Alifia, Yolanda, and Mentari had minimal experience in public relations competitions. One of the most thrilling experiences is in the final stage. At this stage each team was asked to hold a press conference as the Ministry of Education and Culture’s PR with a topic that the team had not yet mastered, namely regarding access to education for persons with disabilities. However, with guidance from Mr. Anwar Sani as the coach, the PRempuan team was able to get through it well.

Joining the Fiesta Communication is a learning opportunity for the PRempuan Team. Not only learning about Public Relations and SDGs, but also about how to adapt to unforeseen circumstances in a short time. The key is to always be open to learning new things and listening to input from others.
