Media and Public Relations: Theory and Practice from an International Perspective

Jatinangor, November 6, 2024 — The Faculty of Communication Sciences at Padjadjaran University once again strengthened its academic network on the international stage by presenting a public lecture entitled “Media Public Relations” organized by the Public Relations Study Program. The public lecture was presented by Dr. Amit Verma, who serves as Assistant Registrar and Assistant Professor (Senior Scale) at Manipal University in Jaipur, India.

The lecture, which was held online on November 6 and 20, 2024, was attended by students, faculty members, and communication practitioners from various regions in Indonesia. During the two sessions, which took place from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM WIB (11:30 AM – 1:00 PM Indian time), participants gained in-depth insights into the role of media in public relations strategies in the digital age. These insights included the use of new media, crisis communication management, and cross-cultural approaches in building organizational image.

Dr. Amit Verma, who concurrently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Communication and Management, disseminated practical experiences and the latest research findings in the domains of journalism and mass communication. Participants engaged in interactive discussions, presented case studies, and received direct feedback from the presenters.

This activity provided participants with an understanding of the concept of media public relations in a global context, as well as their ability to apply media-based communication strategies in various situations. Furthermore, this initiative has served to fortify academic collaboration between Fikom Unpad and Manipal University Jaipur, thereby establishing a foundation for potential future research collaborations and academic exchanges.

This initiative is a component of Fikom Unpad’s dedication to delivering education that is both adaptive and aligned with international standards. This commitment is in alignment with the faculty’s mission to cultivate communication and information science to facilitate problem-solving in society, the nation, and the state.
