Evaluation of government public relations personnel by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics

The Government Public Relations Program (THP) created by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is the implementation of Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2015. THP mainly helps government agencies to convey information to the public by absorbing public aspirations based on Ministries or Institutions programs. In the end it is hoped that the performance of Government Public Relations will increase and there will be an improvement in overall performance in a Government institution. However, in the implementation of the THP program there are still various obstacles, including the presence of THP which is still not fully involved in the planning and implementation of the program so that the bureaucracy in several government institutions cannot accommodate THP’s duties. Based on this background, the purpose of this study was to evaluate Government Public Relations personnel using the main performance indicator standards that had been previously prepared by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics. In addition, the evaluation of Government Public Relations Personnel is also seen from the perspective of ministry or agency public relations officials regarding Government Public Relations Staff (programs) that are spread across Ministries/Agencies. This research method is qualitative with the technique of determining the key informants using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of in-depth interviews with 12 sources. The results and discussion of this study are that THP’s performance is optimal, one of which is shown by disseminating information using online media, social media and various other communication groups. The hope of various government agencies with the existence of the THP program is that THP can transfer practical knowledge regarding effective public relations activities to government institutions.
